Sruti Vyas is a child of immigrant parents and a first generation American. Health and wellness were not a priority in her household due to life obstacles and financial constraints; her parents were focused on making sure the family’s basic needs of food and shelter were met. Observing this, Sruti always craved better health for those she loved, and developed a passion and value for health care. When considering her innate skills and how she could use those to do good in the world, it was clear that in nursing she could spend time with patients actively listening, provide compassionate care, and helping the underserved find resources as she had done for her own family.
Sruit’s educational journey started with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Drexel University after which she was called to nursing and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marymount University, graduating Cum Laude. She is looking forward to providing care as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Midwife after graduating from Georgetown University and being able to deepen her work towards health equity. Her nursing background has always been focused on maternal and fetal health, working primarily in Labor and Delivery. The evidence of health disparities and social determinants of health were extremely apparent from these years at bedside and were especially alarming during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sruti has chosen to dedicate her life’s work towards populations facing the greatest of health disparities to close the gap in health care and actively participate in achieving health equity. She hopes to make a positive impact in a way where one day the health of a person is not determined by their socioeconomic class, neighborhood, education, or their access to care. She hopes that the continuity of care she will be able to provide as a patient’s Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner in office, through childbearing and birth as a Nurse Midwife, will be able to influence whole families to pursue health and wellness.
